We are currently hiring for:

Viva + Impulse Creative Co. is on the lookout for talented, creative, and motivated individuals to join our growing team. If you want to be an important member of our team, make an immediate impact, and have plenty of opportunity for professional growth, this is the place for you.

Developer

We are looking for a remote developer to add to our team. Our agency builds websites and web applications for clients throughout the United States, and our primary development framework is Ruby on Rails. While you do not need to be a senior-level Rails expert, you should be very comfortable working with Rails 4.x and 5.x applications.

You will be responsible for building out new websites for our clients using our awesome, custom-built content management system. Most of the time, we will provide the HTML templates for integration into our CMS; but sometimes, we will ask you to build out the HTML/CSS/JS for splash pages and other simple projects. You will also be responsible for implementing ongoing website and web application updates requested by our clients.

We are building a new version of our content management system that we want you to take the lead on. We are also building a fun web application for the tourism industry and a unique web application for a prestigious university, and we want you to be a large part of those projects.

You need to be very familiar with HTML, SASS, jQuery, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and git. The more experience you have with Rails, the better. If you have an eye for design, even better. You will be jumping between projects frequently, so you won’t be bored working on one project.

Impress us with your cover letter. Be loose. Have fun. Make us smile. Send us links to your GitHub and any projects you have worked on that you are proud of. Full-time, part-time, or freelance work is available, so please specify what you are looking for when applying.

We are builders. We don’t use pre-made website templates and love designing and building custom solutions for our clients. If you share our passion, we want to hear from you.

TIPS FOR APPLYING

When we post job opportunities, we get a lot of cover letters and resumes. You may hear back from us, or you may not. Here are some helpful tips to not only increase your odds of getting a response from us, but will help you as you apply for other jobs:

DO: Show personality in your cover letter. Be loose. Have fun. Make us smile.

DON'T: Address your cover letter to "To Whom It May Concern". Too formal. People stopped using "To Whom It May Concern" when quill pens and parchment paper went out of style. The partners at Viva + Impulse Creative Co. will see all of the cover letters as they arrive. Address your cover letter to them.

DO: Consolidate your resume to one page. Anything more than one page gets boring to read, and we rarely read anything other than the first page. Keeping your resume to one page forces you to focus and only list your relevant work experience and skills.

DON'T: Rank your skill set using an arbitrary ranking system. We don't care if your Photoshop skills are 82%, or if your Illustrator skills are 4 stars, or if your InDesign skills are three 👍 emojis. Arbitrary rankings mean nothing. Tell us what your skills are, and show off those skills in your portfolio.

DO: Make it easy for us to see your portfolio. Send us a link to your website if you have one, and proofread the URL to make sure it works. Sending us a broken link is never a good first impression.

DON'T: Send us a huge PDF of your portfolio that takes forever to download. Anything over 10 MB is too large. Make the file smaller, or send us a link to an online portfolio instead.
